Dreams are a great place to start self-discovery and spiritual work. Translation is preferred over interpretation, as translation examines the objective truths of the dream symbols and elements, revealing the orientation to the field in which the dream is concerned. We begin our practice by first examining dreams and, in the absence of dream memory, short stories that one can envision or by discussing impactful life occurrences. We will discover the archetypes and archetypal patterns that manifest in these dreams, stories, and events.

We will work on discovering the dominant and active archetypes within you. We will work on realignment, activation, and deactivation when needed or desired.

You may be wondering what archetypes are and what relevance they have for you. Think of archetypes as the center of a constellation, like the sun in our solar system with the planets constellated around it in their specific orbits. In Mircea Eliade’s words, an archetype is “an exemplary model.” From Dr. Michael Conforti’s perspective, an archetype is an attractor in one’s psyche (often activated by events and circumstances) that influences emotions, behaviors, and patterns that recur in life. The esteemed anthropologist Joseph Campbell described archetypes as characteristic types with common elements across time, distance, history, and cultures. According to Dr. Carl G. Jung, archetypes reside in the collective unconscious of mankind and are often portrayed in myth and fairy tales while making up the bulk of unconscious content in each of us. Archetypes and their common patterns can be activated and deactivated by events and circumstances in one’s individual life experience. Archetypes can be generative, wholesome, or destructive depending on one’s orientation to them and whether or not they have taken possession of one’s psyche.

Analyzing the role and nature of archetypes in your psyche and how they influence your life at the present moment can lead to significant personal transformation, growth, and spiritual development.
